Mason Thames’ Nightwing Casting Confirmed, Dynamic Duo Actor Breaks Silence

Mason Thames just dropped a major hint about his DC future, and fans are absolutely losing it. The Dynamic Duo star broke his silence on social media shortly after his casting as Dick Grayson/Nightwing in the animated film made headlines.

Mason Thames confirms Dynamic Duo role in social media post

Mason Thames shared an Instagram Story showing a box filled with Nightwing comics and DC merchandise. The post arrives shortly after Deadline reported that he was cast as Dick Grayson in DC Studios’ animated film, Dynamic Duo. Thames, best known for The Black Phone, will voice the character alongside Logan Kim as Jason Todd.

The film follows the early days of Grayson and Todd as street kids who call themselves the Dynamic Duo. Arthur Mintz will direct the project, which his New Orleans-based animation studio Swaybox is producing. Matthew Aldrich wrote the screenplay for the 6th & Idaho production.

Warner Bros. also shifted the film’s release date from June 30, 2028, to September 22, 2028. The studio sees the new window as a strong back-to-school slot for younger and college-aged audiences. The move also distances the film from Paramount’s Call of Duty adaptation, originally scheduled for the same date.

Lee Pace and Steve Buscemi round out the announced voice cast as Red Hood One and Red Hood Two, respectively. The InSneider first revealed the full cast lineup before Deadline’s report confirmed all the key details. Dynamic Duo marks the first collaboration between DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures Animation under the leadership of Bill Damaschke.

Warner Bros. additionally pushed the untitled Chris Columbus-directed Gremlins film from November 2027 to October 2028. The studio previously found success in that early October window with Joker back in 2019. Hannah Marks penned the current draft from a screenplay by Columbus, Zach Lipovsky, and Adam B. Stein.

Steven Spielberg serves as executive producer on the third Gremlins installment through Amblin Entertainment alongside producer Kristie Macosko Krieger.
