Marvel Comics was a pioneer of the shared fictional universe, but over the years, it has lost sight of one of legendary writer Stan Lee's "golden rules" for shaping Marvel continuity: avoid overlapping stories using the same characters. This policy helped make classic Marvel stories special, but contemporary Marvel has completely thrown the rule out the window.
