Leigh Whannell is one of the most interesting filmmakers out there. Some big sci-fi movies need $200 million, a huge intellectual property upon which to base your stories, and enough (colossally underpaid and overworked) visual effects artists to populate a small country. However, Whannell made this one for a fraction of that, and somehow delivered one of the nastiest cyberpunk action movies of the last decade. ImagineRoboCop’s body-horror-infused technology crashing directly into the viciously choreographed action of John Wick, and you’re somewhere close, and audiences are rushing back to rediscover it.
