In the wake of Detective Joe Velasco’s return to Law & Order: SVU, after Octavio Pisano stepped down from his role as a series regular, the actor has shed light on the character’s future. The 39-year-old actor confirmed in a recent interview that he is hoping to reprise his part in the fan-favorite police procedural drama, all the while hinting at a Velasco-centered Law & Order spin-off.
Octavio Pisano hopes to return as Velasco to Law & Order: SVU
The Coyote star recently remarked that he wants to come back to Law & Order: SVU in a potential Season 28, despite his character Joe Velasco’s arc ending on a “vague” note in the latest episode.
“I hope so. That door, I hope it’s open,” Octavio Pisano said while speaking with Soaps.com. He exited SVU as a series regular earlier this season, only for Velasco to make a surprise return. The April 9 episode saw him resurface in New York City to investigate a drug cartel trafficking young women.
However, things soon get messy, and Velasco ends up getting shot. While he manages to pull through, the detective reaffirms that he still needs to do some soul-searching.
“I think that I really put myself in a situation where I’m trying to figure out as I’m going, and I think that the show is trying to figure [it] out. There’s so many moving pieces that we’re all just trying to figure it out,” the 39-year-old explained.
When asked if Law & Order: SVU viewers will see Velasco return again in subsequent episodes, Pisano noted, “I hope so. I can’t really speak to that. I think there’s a lot of changes happening, as always, and I’m just excited to see where they’re going.”
Octavio Pisano then expressed his appreciation for the SVU writers, producers, cast, and showrunner Michele Fazekas, before adding, “The season was great. This season and the finale, I’m excited for the whole thing. So hopefully they come back [next season], so hopefully I come back.”
Octavio Pisano teases Law & Order spin-off
The Feral State actor also discussed the possibility of Joe Velasco crossing over to another one of Dick Wolf’s crime shows during the sit-down.
“I know it’s not around anymore, but Organized Crime,” Pisano replied. Notably, Velasco has already made cameo appearances on the show. However, at the time of writing, NBC has yet to officially renew Law & Order: Organized Crime for a sixth season.
Octavio Pisano concluded his account by subtly teasing a Joe Velasco spin-off. “We’ll see. Listen, the best is yet to come. That’s all I’m gonna say,” he said of the topic.
