Law & Order has long been one of the most popular procedural franchises on TV. What started with one simple show has now expanded into a multi-series enterprise with crossover events, big guest stars, and primetime ratings. The most successful Law & Order spin-off is undoubtedly Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which premiered in 1999, nine years after the debut of the original series. While the show has seen plenty of beloved names come and go over the years, it usually isn’t long before they’re brought back for a reprisal, but the heart of the series has always been Mariska Hargitay. Her portrayal of once detective, now captain Olivia Benson, will live on long after SVU airs its final episode. The series has also featured regulars such as Ice-T and Christopher Meloni, the latter of whom led his own spin-off, Organized Crime.
