Fans in Miami were left stunned Wednesday night when Lady Gaga announced that her Mayhem Ball concert would not go ahead as planned – just minutes before she was due to take the stage.
The pop icon, 39, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram Stories at exactly 8:00 p.m. ET – the official showtime listed on tickets.
She explained that she had no choice but to cancel in order to protect her voice.
‘During rehearsal last night and my vocal warmup tonight, my voice was extremely strained and both my doctor and vocal coach have advised me not to go on,’ Gaga wrote.
‘I don’t want to risk long-term or permanent damage to my vocal cords.’
The Miami date had been eagerly anticipated since the Mayhem Ball tour launched in July, with fans filling the arena expecting Gaga’s famously high-energy set, usually kicking off closer to 8:45 p.m.

The singer emphasised that she had done everything possible to avoid letting her audience down.
‘I want to be hardcore and just push through this for you,’ she confessed in her statement, ‘but I would be more afraid of the long-term implications on my voice.’
She concluded: ‘I hope you can forgive me and accept my sincerest apologies for any letdown or inconvenience. I love my fans so much, respect you, and hope you can accept my regretful apology.’
Tour organizers are working to reschedule the Miami date, though no new date has yet been confirmed.
Gaga’s next scheduled performance is set for Saturday, September 6, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

For disappointed Miami fans, the news came as an abrupt blow.
One fan on X, @CardiAcharest, posted: ‘Never book a trip around a concert because what do you mean I spent like 1,000 dollars for this lady Gaga concert and now I’m just stranded in Miami.’
@himeloaf put it more strongly, writing: ‘lady gaga what do you mean you cancelled miami night 3 ONE MINUTE BEFORE IT STARTED???’
@francisleebaker posted: ‘Flew to Miami for Lady Gaga’s Mayhem Ball only for it to be postponed tonight 😩 The tour only took place in a few cities so I can only imagine how many people are in the same boat. Somebody dropped the ball big time.’
Lady Gaga has been busy this summer, also appearing in new episodes of Netflix’s spooky hit Wednesday.
The Born This Way singer was part of a raft of stars added to the show credits, with the likes of Thandiwe Newton, Christopher Lloyd and Billie Piper – all of whom appear in the first part of the season.
Details of Lady Gaga’s appearance were kept under the thickest of wraps over at Netflix HQ, with her turn as Rosaline Rotwood held back until the second part of the season.
