Canadian First Nations actor Graham Greene passed away on September 1, 2025, at the age of 73. He has appeared in nearly 200 movies since his debut in the early ‘80s. He is widely known for his roles in movies like The Green Mile, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, Wind River, and Dances with Wolves.
Kevin Costner, director and the lead actor for Dances with Wolves, took to his social media to pay tribute to his former co-star. In an Instagram post, Costner uploaded a clip from Dances with Wolves, which was accompanied by a heartfelt caption.
The caption reads, “A few things come to mind when I think of Graham Greene and our time together on Dances With Wolves.”
Costner further wrote, “I think of how willing he was to learn the Lakota language. I think of my joy when I heard that his work on the film was recognized with an @theacademy Awards nomination.”
He continued, “And I think of this scene in particular, when he was able to establish so much about the relationship between Dunbar and the natives with so few words. He was a master at work and a wonderful human being. I’m grateful to have been witness to this part of his lasting legacy. Rest in peace, Graham.”
Greene’s performance in Dances with Wolves Kicking Bird got him his first Academy Award nomination. He’s also worked in theatre and was known for his performances in Dry Lips Oughta Move to Kapuskasing, The Crackwalker, and more.
