Academy Award nominee Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin, F1) has officially signed on to star opposite Maya Hawke in Netflix‘s upcoming The God of the Woods series, based on the bestselling novel written by Liz Moore. This marks Hawke’s first major TV project with the streamer, following the series finale of Stranger Things.
“The show is a multi-generational drama series set in the Adirondacks, exploring the Van Laar family’s dark secrets, class tensions, and the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of 13-year-old Barbara Van Laar from her family’s summer camp—in the wake of an earlier family tragedy that may be related,” reads the official synopsis. “As the past and present collide, the Van Laars’ wealth and influence unravel, revealing the damaging consequences of privilege and the abuse of power.”
What do we know about Kerry Condon’s character in Netflix’s The God of the Woods series?
Condon has been tapped to play the series regular character of Alice Van Laar, whose 13-year-old daughter suddenly goes missing. The acclaimed Irish star appeared in last year’s Star Wars: Skeleton Crew series. Meanwhile, Hawke is set to portray Judy Luptack, a smart and quietly determined investigator tasked with solving the disappearance of a young girl from a summer camp in upstate New York.
The character description for Alice reads, “Hardened by the grief of a past family tragedy and trapped in a contemptuous marriage, Alice is forced to face the unimaginable when her 13-year-old daughter goes missing.”
The God of the Woods is written and executive-produced by showrunners Liz Hannah and Liz Moore. Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty are also set as executive producers for Original Film. It is a production by Sony Pictures Television.
