The upcoming Highlander reboot stars Henry Cavill alongside Karen Gillan. Gillan, a Scottish actress herself, portrays Heather—the mortal wife of Cavill’s Connor MacLeod. The production marks a new chapter for the franchise, which famously featured French actor Christopher Lambert as the Scottish lead in the 1986 original while Scottish legend Sean Connery portrayed an Egyptian/Spanish immortal.

A Legacy of Authenticity

The production includes Scottish WWE star Drew McIntyre, who plays Angus MacLeod. The film features a return to iconic locations, including Eilean Donan Castle—the same site used in the original film—as well as the Isle of Skye and London.

Directed by Chad Stahelski of the John Wick franchise for Amazon MGM Studios, the project has prioritized a gritty, historically grounded aesthetic. Principal photography for the reboot officially began on January 28, 2026.

The production features a high-profile ensemble intended to revitalize the property. Alongside Cavill and Gillan, the cast includes Russell Crowe as Ramirez, Dave Bautista as The Kurgan, and Jeremy Irons. Amazon MGM Studios has not yet finalized a theatrical release date.
