The highly acclaimed 2024 musical, starring Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, and Jonathan Bailey, will begin streaming on Peacock later this month. The film is based on an iconic children’s fantasy book, which later inspired one of the longest-running Broadway shows in history.

Wicked sets Peacock streaming date

Wicked will become available to stream on Peacock starting Thursday, May 21, 2026, per the streamer’s schedule. It will also be accompanied by a Sing-Along version.

The story follows Elphaba, a green-skinned young woman who enrolls at Shiz University, where she meets Glinda. Despite a rocky start, the two eventually become close friends. Meanwhile, Elphaba’s powerful magic draws the attention of the Wizard of Oz, and she travels to the Emerald City with Glinda. However, following a shocking revelation about the wizard, the two friends find themselves on very different paths.

Wicked is the feature film adaptation of the Broadway show of the same name, which was itself inspired by Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. Furthermore, Maguire drew heavy inspiration from L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, for his work.

Jon M. Chu directed the film with a screenplay by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox. It stars Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Ethan Slater as Boq, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, and Jeff Goldblum as Oz, among others.

Unsurprisingly, Wicked became incredibly successful, with overwhelming reviews from both critics and moviegoers. It currently holds an impressive audience score of 95%, while the critics gave it 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.

At the box office, the film went on to make over $758.8 million globally against a reported $150 million budget. The following year, Wicked earned 10 nominations at the 2025 Oscars, including for Best Picture. At the end of the night, it won two awards: Best Production Design and Best Costume Design.

Its sequel, Wicked: For Good, followed on November 21, 2025, but was less successful in both commercial and critical terms.
