Jessica Chastain’s New TV Show Delayed Due to Charlie Kirk Assassination

Jessica Chastain’s new TV show, which was supposed to premiere on Apple TV+ in just three days, has been delayed.

The Savant is a crime thriller miniseries created by Melissa James Gibson. The series was supposed to premiere on Apple’s streaming platform on Friday, September 26, 2025.

Why was Jessica Chastain’s new TV show delayed?

Now, however, the show has been put on hold for the time being. A new premiere date has not yet been set.

“After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone The Savant,” an Apple TV+ spokesperson told Deadline. “We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date.”

Apple TV+ didn’t elaborate on the decision further than that; however, Deadline believes the decision is likely related to the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk.

“The Savant’s subject matter is believed to be behind it, with the storyline and some of the imagery considered possibly triggering following the recent assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk,” the article notes. “The series includes a sniper attack and the bombing of a government building, among acts of violence.”

The Hollywood Reporter’s article on the situation further notes, “The Savant doesn’t parallel Kirk’s murder beyond its general plot line surrounding politically motivated planned attacks on specific targets.”

The official logline for the show reads, “Jessica Chastain stars as a top-secret undercover investigator known as the Savant, who infiltrates online hate groups to take down the most violent extremists in the United States.”

In addition to Chastain, the cast of the show, which is based on a 2019 Cosmopolitan article by Andrea Stanley, includes Cole Doman, Jordana Spiro, Trinity Lee Shirley, Toussaint Francois Battiste, Pablo Schreiber, and James Badge Dale. Chastain and Kelly Carmichael executive produce for Freckle Films alongside Alan Poul, Melissa James Gibson, Matthew Heineman, David Levine, and Garrett Kemble.
