Jenna Ortega on Why She Almost Quit Acting

Jenna Ortega revealed why she almost thought of quitting acting until she landed a role in a hit Netflix series. During a conversation, she mentioned that acting was the only career option she had ever seriously considered for herself. However, during her teenage years, there was a time when she felt uncertain about her future in acting and considered stepping away. She also believed it was a good time to quit and had a word with her team.

Ortega recently appeared on Kid Cudi’s Big Bro podcast, where she opened up about considering stepping away from acting before securing a role in Netflix’s You. She said, “I didn’t know what else I was gonna do. I’ve never really considered anything else, more so recently, just out of the sake of curiosity and wanting another life experience.”

However, when she was a teenager, she completed a children’s show and felt uncertain about her acting career. Revealing what challenge she faced, she added, “I had to prove myself and meet all these new casting directors who didn’t know who I was.”

At the time, she believed that it was a good time to consider stepping away from acting, since she was also about to start high school. She then spoke with her team for a few months before making any official decision. However, the tables turned when she landed a role in You. “And then, I think I booked that show You, and then I went on that set, and I loved it and had the best time. I thought, ‘Yeah, there’s no way I could let this go,” she added.

Ortega began her acting career at the age of 9. However, she rose to prominence with her solid performances in projects including  Stuck in the Middle, Wednesday, and the Scream film series.
