Jason Momoa’s The Wrecking Crew Follow-up Movie Lands at Amazon MGM

Jason Momoa is teaming up with Amazon MGM again, and this time it’s not what fans might expect. The actor’s next project with the studio takes a surprising turn from his recent streaming hit.

Jason Momoa reunites with Amazon MGM for new movie after The Wrecking Crew

Amazon MGM Studios has picked up Shots! Shots! Shots!, an action comedy starring Jason Momoa, The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported. Universal Studios previously set up the project before putting it into turnaround. Momoa is currently in talks to star in and produce the feature film.

Writers Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows wrote the original spec script. Universal first picked it up back in 2022. However, shifting budgetary priorities forced Universal to rethink and ultimately release the project.

Amazon MGM moved quickly to snap up the film after working with Momoa recently. His action comedy The Wrecking Crew delivered a massive streaming hit for the company earlier this year. Jonathan Eirich of Rideback, the banner behind the billion-dollar Lilo & Stitch remake, will produce alongside Jeff Fierson.

The studio keeps story details under wraps for now. However, sources describe the project as a family-centric adventure film. It reportedly carries tones of James Cameron’s True Lies, the Taken franchise, and The Lost City. Mider and Burrows will executive produce alongside Rideback’s Ryan Halprin.

The film remains in development and Momoa does not expect to shoot it next. He recently dropped out of Sony’s Helldivers, which was set to begin shooting in August. Momoa will next appear as the popular antihero Lobo in DC Studios’ Supergirl, opening June 26.

His packed schedule continues with Legendary’s Street Fighter, hitting theaters on October 16. He also stars in Dune: Part Three, set for release on December 18. WME represents Momoa, while Mider and Burrows have representation through WME and Silver Lake Entertainment.
