“The last Grand Slam of the year, the last biggest tournament we have through the season, and there is no better place to play than in the biggest stadium we have with an amazing crowd. It means a lot to me,” said Jannik Sinner who is having a blast at the US Open. The world No.1 is simply proving why he is at the top of the list with a scintillating campaign in New York. Seems like he never left the court after capturing the title last season at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. On Wednesday night, backed by the chants of a roaring crowd, the Italian earned yet another rare distinction while etching his name in history as he continues his quest to defend his 2024 crown.
Sinner defeated compatriot Lorenzo Musetti in the quarterfinal clash in straight sets. With a scoreline of 6-1, 6-4, 6-2, he confirmed a spot in the last four of the American hard court slam. But that’s not it. After his latest win, Sinner has become the youngest ATP World No.1 in history to reach the semis of all four slams in a single season. Since 1973, he’s just the fourth No.1 player to do so while joining an elite list of icons who have achieved this feat, namely Ivan Lendl, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
4 – Since 1973, Jannik Sinner is just the fourth ATP #1 to reach all four Men’s Singles SFs in a season at GS events after Ivan Lendl, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic – Sinner is the youngest of the four to achieve the feat. Whoa.#USOpen | @usopen @atptour @ATPMediaInfo pic.twitter.com/HWcN9qEvaI
