James Wan Wants To Move On From ‘The Conjuring,’ and That’s Exactly What This Horror Franchise Needs

After 12 years, eight major films, and countless demons, audiences are preparing to say goodbye to Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) with The Conjuring: Last Rites. Loosely based on the alleged Smurl family haunting, the picture is set to bring about an end to The Conjuring Universe as we know it. It’s certainly not an easy task given the franchise’s popularity, and rumors have already circulated about a possible creative reboot for the series with a proposed “Phase Two.” For executive producer and franchise godfather, James Wan, however, his focus is elsewhere.
