-Xena: Warrior Princess has officially turned 30! Premiering Sept 4 1995.

-Lucy Lawless and husband Rob Tapert talk the shows beginnings and impact to npr.

-Tapert set out to tell an adventure show that made the audience feel something and not necessarily one about the sexuality, but more about a character on the road to redemption.

-They found it interesting that the studio never had any concerns of Hercules/Iolaus being interpreted as gay compared to being scared of Xena/Gabrielle sharing scenes in the credits.

-Tapert wanted the show to be transgressive and with the studio being pretty hands off, they gave Xena various love interests within the first 7 episodes that were all men of color.

-On Xena/Gabrielle's "kiss" in the series finale and if they knew the impact they were creating -
Lucy stated "No. To us, it was just like, oh, that's the story. That's what we're doing today. We never thought about the impact on anybody. Rob, what do you think?"
Rob stated "well, actually, because I was there in directing the final episode, Lucy and Renee kind of went, all right, we finally got here. So they knew exactly what that moment was about."
Lucy "oh"
