Hundreds of people wearing all-black balaclavas have halted traffic in Dover as part of a protest.

Kent Police say they are aware of a protest at the Port of Dover and officers are engaging with the protestors.

Clips across social media have showed large groups of people standing in the middle of roads.

Reform UK councillor John Baker, for Kent County Council, said he believes it is a ‘stop the boats’ protest.

Roughly 300 people are said to be in the protest, which has caused standstill traffic on the A20.

Writing on social media, Port of Dover travel news said: ‘Traffic going in and out of the Port is stopped due to an ongoing public order incident.’

P&O Ferries Travel Update then stated: ‘Please be advised that access to the Port of Dover is currently restricted.

‘If you miss your sailing, we will get you onto the next when you reach our check-in.’
