House of the Dragon Season 3 has earned an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score ahead of its premiere. Co-created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal, the popular series is set before the events of HBO’s highly successful Game of Thrones.

What is the Rotten Tomatoes score for House of the Dragon Season 3?

At the time of writing, House of the Dragon Season 3 holds a Rotten Tomatoes score of 97%, based on more than 30 critic reviews. Interestingly, it’s the best score earned by the prequel TV show in all three of its seasons so far.

House of the Dragon Season 1 had a Rotten Tomatoes score of 90% while Season 2 arrived with a slightly lower score of 84%. Based on early reviews, the third season has surpassed the previous installments, according to the latest score based on early reviews.

House of the Dragon Season 3 is said to be the most ambitious entry in the prequel series in terms of scale and large-scale battle sequences.

Ahead of its premiere, one of the cast members, Steve Toussaint, who plays Lord Corlys Velaryon, revealed that Season 3 opens with a huge battle scene to set the tone for the entire show. “People who know the story have been excited and waiting for this particular sea battle,” said the actor. “Luckily for me, my character and his son [Alyn of Hull, played by Abubakar Salim], are central to that.”

Toussaint added, “I don’t know what the budget was, but it was a lot. They built three ships, built two tanks – a wet tank and a dry tank – and then they just squirted lots of water cannons at us. We cut people’s heads off, they poured blood on us, and it’s mayhem.”

The recently released House of the Dragon Season 3 trailer also suggests that the stakes are higher, and fans can expect more bloodshed and massive set pieces.

The show’s cast also features Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, Matthew Needham, James Norton, Tom Bennett, Kieran Bew, Kurt Egyiawan, and Freddie Fox. Additionally, Clinton Liberty, Gayle Rankin, Abubakar Salim, Tom Cullen, Tommy Flanagan, Dan Fogler, Joplin Sibtain, and Barry Sloane are also playing crucial roles.

House of the Dragon Season 3 premieres on June 21, 2026, on HBO Max and HBO.
