Honoured to Receive Leadership in Cinema Award From IFFM: Rishab Shetty

Actor, writer and filmmaker Rishab Shetty will be honoured with the prestigious Leadership in Cinema Award at the 2026 edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM). The award recognises his remarkable contribution to Indian cinema, particularly for bringing the rich traditions and spiritual heritage of coastal Karnataka to global audiences through the Kantara franchise. Rishab will attend the festival as one of its marquee guests.

'Honoured to receive the IFFM Award'

Reacting to the honour, Rishab Shetty expressed gratitude and reflected on the purpose behind his work.

"I feel deeply honoured to receive the Leadership in Cinema Award from the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. Storytelling has always been my way of celebrating our culture, our traditions and the communities that inspire us. It is incredibly meaningful to see stories rooted in our heritage resonate with audiences across the world," he said.

The actor further added that he is looking forward to celebrating the diversity and strength of Indian cinema alongside fellow filmmakers and audiences in Melbourne.

A filmmaker rooted in culture

Over the past few years, Rishab Shetty has emerged as one of Indian cinema's most distinctive storytellers. Through the Kantara films, he has explored the folklore, indigenous beliefs and spiritual traditions of coastal Karnataka while blending them with compelling commercial storytelling.

The franchise's massive success proved that deeply rooted regional stories can transcend language barriers and find audiences across India and internationally, cementing Rishab's reputation as a filmmaker with a unique cinematic voice.

Mythological projects ahead

Rishab's journey into mythology is only expanding. He will next headline Jai Hanuman, directed by Prasanth Varma, where he essays the role of Lord Hanuman. Set in Kaliyug, the film explores a divine promise that transcends time. He is also set to portray Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, further strengthening his association with larger-than-life historical and mythological narratives.
