Hit Netflix Horror TV Show Creator Reveals 10-Season Plan Despite Controversies

The creator of Netflix‘s highly popular crime horror TV show has some good news for fans. He confirmed his plans to make 10 seasons of it. The news comes after the controversial series recently returned for its fourth installment, based on a real-life trial.

Ian Brennan, the mind behind the Monster TV show, alongside Ryan Murphy, has revealed huge ambitions to expand the series for 10 seasons. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he said, “Ryan and I both said we want to do 10 of them. It’s a fairly exhaustive list, but it’s tricky.”

When asked if he has the future seasons already lined up, Brennan revealed, “We never do. We always switch. It’s always three or four different ones, and we toggle between.”

First launched as a limited series, Monster has expanded so far into four seasons. The latest offering, The Lizzie Borden Story, is now streaming on Netflix. Despite backlash for its sensationalized violence, the new chapter has become a hit.

The 10-season plan is only part of the story behind the hit TV show

While Ian Brennan has expressed his 10-season plan for Monster, there’s more to it when it comes to choosing from a number of real-life killers. “You’d be surprised at how many subjects we start and then abandon, because it’s just not [right]. You can really tell when it’s wrong right away, because you’re asking people to spend seven or eight or nine or 10 hours getting inside this person’s head. They better be really interesting.”

He added, “That’s always the challenge with this show — finding that. And then once we do, it flies out.”

Murphy and Brennan’s latest season of the anthology series focuses on the 1892 axe murders of Lizzie Borden’s parents, her father Andrew and stepmother Abby.

An official synopsis for Season 4 reads, “When the repressed daughter of a wealthy New England family and her rebellious maid find themselves trapped in a house built on humiliation and cruelty, they escape into a fantasy of sex, power, and revenge.”

The cast includes Ella Beatty in the lead role of murder suspect Lizzie Borden. Other key cast members are Charlie Hunnam, Rebecca Hall, and Vicky Krieps.
