CBS made a key decision about one of its comedy pilots as the network finalizes its 2026-27 lineup. The move directly affects a high-profile project that featured well-known talent and a major studio behind it.
The Tillbrooks, formerly Regency, is not moving forward at CBS
CBS confirmed it will not move forward with The Tillbrooks, formerly known as Regency. The network passed on the multi-camera sitcom pilot ahead of its 2026-27 schedule reveal, Deadline reported. Tara Hernandez created the project, which Warner Bros TV produced.
The Tillbrooks starred Kate Walsh and Rhys Darby in the lead roles. The pilot did not perform as well at network screenings last week. Sources confirmed the other comedy pilot earned stronger reception during those sessions.
CBS will drop below four comedy series on air for the first time. The network canceled freshman comedy DMV earlier this cycle. Its veteran sitcom The Neighborhood is also ending after this season. Only two returning half-hour series remain on the CBS comedy slate. The single-camera Ghosts and multi-camera Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will continue. CBS will carry three comedies next season, down from four this season.
The decision mirrors last year’s development cycle at the network. CBS chose between a CBS Studios single-camera pilot and a WBTV multi-camera pilot then too. The network picked the CBS Studios project in both instances.
Passing on The Tillbrooks helps CBS balance its books in a transitional period. Parent company Paramount Global recently completed its acquisition by Skydance. This marks CBS’s first upfront since that deal closed.
CBS will add dramas next season with Cupertino and Einstein joining the lineup. Only one current drama, Watson, is not returning in 2026-27. The network will officially reveal its full schedule next week. CBS made The Tillbrooks decision as its final scripted programming call this cycle.
