If Alex Liu’s God Bless You, Mr. Kopu is any indication, this could be an exciting new chapter for Polynesian cinema. In a recent interview (The HoloFiles), when asked to describe his film in three words, Liu offered the words “Pacific New Wave,” a term he says a group of filmmakers back home have begun using to describe the emerging movement. It is an apt description for a film deeply rooted in Pacific identity while refusing to be confined by genre or convention.
