Glenda’s beautiful gesture leaves thrilled Debbie on Cloud 9 in Coronation Street

Where would Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) be on Coronation Street without her angels?

Weatherfield’s not been particularly kind to the no nonsense Queen of the Chariot Square Hotel over the past year.

Her entire world was thrown into chaos by a heartbreaking vascular dementia diagnosis back in 2025.

When she wasn’t dealing with memory lapses and confusion, she was constantly having her heart broken by her no good toe-rag then-brother-now-long-lost son Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard).

The amount of headaches Carl has caused Debbie could fill this entire article, so I’ll just restrict it to the basics for brevity’s sake – wrecked his uncle Kevin Webster’s (Michael Le Vell) marriage by seducing his wife, did a hit-and-run on Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall), caused a car crash that killed Billy Mayhew and gaslit Debbie into taking the blame.

Indeed, he was happy to see his mum go to prison in his place, and the resulting distress form being away from her friends and family only exacerbated the dementia.

But through it all, she’s come out smiling thanks to Debbie’s Angels.

No, I’m not talking about a flock of winged celestial beings. Much better than that – a flock of fiercely loyal menopausal women who drink, laugh and gossip with her in Sally Metcalfe’s (Sally Dynevor) hot tub.

This glorious girl squad includes Sally Metcalfe, Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove), Mary Taylor and Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins). They’ve supported Debbie through everything that her condition makes harder, from organising her wedding to her work with the Dementia Choir.

However, there’s one angel that shines particularly bright for our Deb, and that is Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger),

The undertaker’s sister turned barmaid has been an absolute rock for our Debs, helping her form their dementia choir last year, who even sang at Debbie’s wedding to Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) earlier this year – with Debs doing the solo, obviously.

The choir has bonded the two women closely, leading to a heartbreaking moment recently where Debbie asked Glenda to take over the choir when she is no longer capable… only to ask her the same thing again seconds later.

Unfortunately, Debbie’s decline is getting worse by the day with her memory lapses and bouts of confusion becoming alarmingly frequent.

Like the other angels, Glenda is doing her best to be supportive but feels her beloved friend slipping through her fingers as the weeks go by. She’s got to hider her own private heartache and treat Debbie like her same-old fabulous self – right until the bitter end.

Which makes what she’s about to do all the more wonderful. In upcoming episodes of Coronation Street, Glenda makes a heartfelt gesture that shows just what her bestie means to her. The really sad part? Debbie doesn’t even know it.

Glenda hosts a pub quiz to raise money for Debbie’s dementia choir. With the pub quiz in full swing, Debbie’s in her element answering questions about the 80s. For one night, Debbie can forget all about her dementia and feel like herself again.

During the quiz, Ronnie smiles at Glenda, knowing she fixed the quiz in Debbie’s favour, to give her the boost she dearly needed. It seems to have worked a treat. Debbie’s jubilant as she heads out.

However, her mood quickly sours when she overhears Ross Wilkes (Ian Burfield) slagging off Carl to Kevin. Will this dampen Debbie’s perfect day?
