Curious about the latest General Hospital twist? In 2003, Ric Lansing trapped a pregnant Carly Corinthos in a panic room, a storyline that became one of the soap’s most infamous plots. Now, more than two decades later, the tables have turned as Ric becomes the captive. With Alexis, Ava, and Kristina in control, the reversal blends irony, dark humor, and a nod to the show’s dramatic history.

Here’s what General Hospital star Rick Hearst had to say about Ric becoming the new Carly in this hostage situation.

General Hospital’s Rick Hearst reacts to parallels of Ric taking Carly hostage

Rick Hearst reflected on the parallels between Ric Lansing’s 2003 “panic room” storyline and his current hostage arc.

“Fans bring it up to me constantly,” he told Soap Opera Digest. “For so long, it has been such a benchmark for the character, and a black stain on the character.” In 2025, Ric finds himself chained to a cot and locked in Alexis’s basement by Alexis, Ava, and Kristina. Hearst described it as a reverse panic room and pointed out that Ric now straps into a bed just like Carly once did.

Hearst described the stunt that set the story in motion, when Ava struck Ric with a paperweight. “When you’re doing a stunt fall, you’re hoping that you fall into a fairly comfortable position,” he explained. “Each time, it was like, ‘Rick, you good there? Yeah, I’m fine, no problem.’ But I’m like, ‘Damn, they’ve gotta get the 60-year-old and put him on the ground?’” He noted, “Thankfully, it wasn’t an intense stunt, but I still had to do the fall, I still had to take the fall.”

Hearst also recalled filming with Nancy Lee Grahn when Ric realized Alexis wasn’t there to help him. “At first, it was the anticipation of, ‘She found me! Please get me out of here!’” he said. “Meanwhile, Nancy is completely calm. Ric is like, ‘Why are you so chill about this? You’ve got to get me out of here.’” He added, “I found my voice cracking when Ric comes to find out that she’s not there to rescue me and I say, ‘Are you gonna kill me?’ They kept it, and I went, ‘Oh, that’s gonna be funny, that’s gonna be hysterical!’”

On Kristina’s role, Hearst said, “She’s just relishing the fact that I’m tied up. Ric wants it to come out that you tried to kill me and you need to pay for that, but I can’t do that!” He concluded, “Everybody being able to get those little digs at one another is just beautiful. It’s just rife with the possibilities of a revenge tour.”
