The actor who briefly played a young Eddard Stark in Game of Thrones Season 6 has responded to questions about whether he would reprise the role if a related Game of Thrones prequel were to happen.
Robert Aramayo on if he’ll play Ned Stark if a Game of Thrones prequel happens
Speaking to ScreenRant, Robert Aramayo reflected on his time playing the role, and while he clearly looks back on it with affection, he also hinted that returning in a Game of Thrones prequel doesn’t feel likely.
“Oh, my word. I’ve never been asked that question before. I mean, that was just such an amazing part of my life. I absolutely loved playing Ned. It was great. I loved Game of Thrones. I was so excited to do. It was one of my first jobs. So I’ve got very, very good memories of it, but it was a long time ago.”
His scenes in the show took place toward the end of Robert’s Rebellion, including the Tower of Joy sequence, where Ned finds Lyanna Stark and makes a life-changing promise. The possible prequel, however, covers events before those scenes, which already opens the door for a different casting direction.
The announcement of Game of Thrones: The Mad King has renewed interest in a Game of Thrones prequel. The stage production will run at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre between July 20 and September 5, 2026, and focuses on the Great Tourney of Harrenhal, where Rhaegar Targaryen publicly reveals his feelings for Lyanna Stark, and Robert’s Rebellion, the war ignited by their actions.
Because this timeline ties so closely to the original show, many fans have started wondering whether HBO could eventually turn it into a television series and whether familiar characters like Ned Stark would be recast or reprised.
For now, however, Aramayo’s comments suggest he has moved on from the role.
