Out of all the magical beings contained within fantasy's vast iconography, one would be hard-pressed to find a more genre-defining staple than dragons. These literal behemoths' omnipresent popularity and thematic versatility (monsters to slay, pets to tame) have placed them at the forefront of some major Hollywood IPs. With that said, Game of Thrones arguably launched the fire-breathers into widespread cultural prominence — a symbol forever associated with prestige television. Subsequent fantasy shows have either failed to capitalize upon Westeros' dragons-and-politics-and-war hook, however, or not broken into the mainstream.
