One day after his NCAA freshman season came to an end, Porter Martone is ready to start a new chapter of his hockey career.

The Philadelphia Flyers signed the first-round pick to an entry-level deal, the team announced on Sunday.

He will join the team for the remainder of this season. The Flyers host the Dallas Stars on Sunday (Sportsnet, Sportsnet+, 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT), though it is unclear whether Martone will immediately debut.

Martone’s Michigan State Spartans lost 4-3 in overtime against the Wisconsin Badgers in the Worcester, Mass., regional final of the NCAA tournament on Saturday, falling one win short of reaching the Frozen Four.

The six-foot-three Martone, picked sixth overall by the Flyers in 2025, had 25 goals and 25 assists for a team-leading 50 points in 35 games at Michigan State after moving to the NCAA from the OHL’s Brampton Steelheads. The native of Peterborough, Ont., was named to the all-Big Ten first team.

Martone, 19, also was captain of Team Canada at the world junior championship earlier this year, helping the squad win a bronze medal in his second year in a row representing the country at the annual tournament.

Martone also played two games for Canada at last year’s men’s world championship.
