The Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, one of the 23 annual prizes handed out by Columbia University in New York City, was one of the original Pulitzer Prizes. It was originally called the Pulitzer Prize for the Novel in 1917, and its name wouldn't be changed until 1948. Since then, an American author has been rewarded every year for having written a piece of fiction so remarkable, so unforgettable, and so reflective of the high standards of American literature that they proved themselves worthy of such a prestigious honor.
