Euphoria is back and doing what it does best: dividing opinion.
It’s been four years (our time) since the toxic group of high school kids blazed across our screens, in softly-lit cinematic tones, and we now return for the third and final season five years on (their time).
The gang of Hollywood’s hottest properties – Zendaya, Jacob Elordi and Sydney Sweeney among them – are now in their early twenties, but still don’t have their lives together.
Instead, most of the women of the show appear to have taken to some form of sex work. Jules (Hunter Schafer) is a sugar baby, Rue (Zendaya) is doing some shady stuff in proximity to strippers and Cassie (Sweeney) is creating OnlyFans content.
It’s these scenes of Cassie filming her explicit content that have already got viewers gabbing one day after the show’s awaited return. One sees the 28-year-old pin-up dressed as a baby, complete with a dummy in her mouth.
In another, Sweeney’s Cassie is dressed as a dog, with a collar and a lead, during an exchange with her once psychotic, but now seemingly neutered hubbie Nate (Elordi).
Pulling her on the collar, Nate calls Cassie a ‘bad bad dog’, to which a facially-lacquered Cassie woofs in response.
The scene is doing the rounds on social media, prompting plenty of outrage from some viewers, who have dubbed it a ‘humiliation ritual’ for the actors involved.
‘This is so embarrassing even for Jacob,’ wrote Dave Barrerita on X. ‘But, how Sydney Sweeney can agree to do something like this? It’s like a humiliation ritual.’
Jade joked: ‘Cassie’s character is so pathetic it’s tragic but I will tune into the trash. no doubt about it.’

Bizarrely, it’s the second time in recent months that Elordi has played a character who treats his partner like a dog (hello Wuthering Heights).
It’s a fact that wasn’t lost on fans. Esther tweeted: ‘Don’t want to be the one to ban the fun, but I think we’ve already had enough of Jacob Elordi yanking women around on a leash for this year, and we’re only in April.’
However, given that brazen depictions of sex have become the show’s MO, others said the scene would be fairly par for the course for an OF creator or those in the kink-positive community.
As one commenter put it: ‘Confusing the character with the actress is already stupid, but on top of that, confusing sexual life (kinks, rituals, games…) with real life by calling it a humiliation ritual is just the absolute limit.’
Meanwhile, another wrote on X: ‘Euphoria has shown pretty crazy shit over the years and now suddenly people are freaking out over this. It’s a TV show. If you can’t handle it. Stop watching.’
Euphoria season three is available on Sky, NOW, and HBO Max.
