Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney Defends Nudity in Cassie’s OnlyFans Story

Sydney Sweeney has opened up about the nudity featured in her character Cassie’s OnlyFans storyline. The actress addressed the choices behind the polarizing Season 3 of Euphoria. It is one of the most talked-about arcs in Euphoria’s final season. Her character, Cassie Howard, built an OnlyFans empire, complete with nudity, after marrying the volatile Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi).

Sweeney said showrunner Sam Levinson sent the scripts early and called her afterwards to walk through Cassie’s scenes together. He asked where she stood on it. Her answer was, “Look, I’m playing a character,” she shared in an interview with Vanity Fair.

“Do I agree with all of Cassie’s decisions? Would I personally make these choices? No, of course not. But I’m an actor, and that’s my job, and this is Cassie’s life, and to be able to do her justice and play her how she’s to be played is to bring Sam’s vision to life and to play Cassie in the most vulnerable and insane way possible.”

Interestingly, Levinson had originally considered shooting the OnlyFans scenes without nudity, but Sweeney pushed back, insisting they needed to commit fully to make it authentic.

When asked why the OnlyFans path made sense for Cassie at all, Sweeney pointed to something the character has carried since Season 1. “From the very beginning, you can see that Cassie has this need to be loved. She has a need to be validated by other people. She doesn’t know how to love herself unless someone else loves her.”

The platform, she argued, wasn’t really about money or content. It was about an audience. “I think she was more excited by the idea of all these people loving her and knowing who she is and feeling like her world isn’t small.”

The finale leaves Cassie still standing — outlasting Nate’s violent death, Rue’s passing, and the dismantling of her original operation — before pivoting to running a house for other OnlyFans creators alongside Maddy.
