The latest trailer for season three of Euphoria has fans taken aback by its new direction, which sees the character in various kinds of legal trouble.
Ahead of the long-awaited return of the show, which was last on screens in 2022, the new trailer sees Zendaya’s lead character Rue being interrogated by police as she is shown travelling to Mexico to work with drug dealers as a mule, swallowing bags of an unknown drug.
Elsewhere, Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Nate (Jacob Elordi) are shown to have got married, with Cassie entering the world of adult “cam girl” content after reuniting with Maddy (Alexa Demie). A face from Nate’s past also spells trouble for the couple. You can view the trailer below.
The new season will reportedly be the show’s last, and premieres on April 12 on both HBO Max and Sky Atlantic in the UK. On X (formerly Twitter), fans expressed shock that the show, which previously had been set in high school, had taken such a thematic turn.
“So this show went from teen drama to GTA!!???” exclaimed one, referencing the game series Grand Theft Auto. “This is a completely different show”, wrote one user, with another adding: “What happened to sweet loving high school kids?”

Eric Dane will be included in the final season as Cal Jacobs, filmed prior to his death in February. One fan included a screengrab of his appearance in the clip, with the caption: “ERIC DANE MY HEART”.

Recently, the show’s composer Labrinth criticised Euphoria as part of a wider tirade against the music industry, announcing that he’s “done” with his label and that “fake ain’t a good business plan”.
