The dreaded 4th of May approaches, the date of the trial and show time for Emmerdale’s and Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt), Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle), and Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards).
They will all now face court to seal their fates in the case of the death of Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) and their fates will be sealed with whatever comes out of it. A big part of the outcome will be influenced by April Windsor’s (Amelia Flanagan) testimony, and she’s terrified.
She’s been called as a witness, and her greatest fear is that her words will work against the ones that she loves. It’s entirely possible – the prosecution already plans to use her to its advantage.
It’s a huge weight on the young teen’s shoulders after the horrific year she faced at the hands of Ray and Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths).
Forced into selling drugs, forced into believing she’d murdered a man. And now in a cruel twist of fate, she could end up losing her boyfriend because of them.
Bear is facing murder charges for killing Ray Walters (Joe Absolom), while Dylan and Paddy have admitted to helping conceal the body and perverting the course of justice. Now somehow, they all must make the court see that Bear was not of sound mind and acted in self-defence, and that Ray was an out and out abuser.
But it’s not looking likely. Dylan even tried to break things off with April, so convinced was he that he’ll be sent down. And Bear’s behaviour that recently saw him shoved into solitary confinement won’t have helped either.
Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) is right by April’s side, encouraging her to tell the jurors about the abuse she suffered at the hands of Ray, but she’s already crumbling.
The defence and prosecution barristers lay out their case to the judge, jury, and spectators, and it’s the moment everything becomes startlingly real.
Bear is in a bad spot as he relives the whole ordeal as they speak and then comes April’s turn. The cross-examination is brutal and she realises that her worst fear is coming to life.
April is left in bits afterwards as dad Marlon tries to reassure her that she did so well. But Zara all but confirms that their case has taken a nosedive by saying they have no choice but to put Bear on the stand.
This is a worrying move and April blames herself. Will her testimony see things go south for Bear?
