Emmerdale confirms Robert’s connection with Kev in early ITVX release – and it spells bad news for Aaron

The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.

Emmerdale has confirmed the connection between Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and newcomer Kev (Chris Coghill), and it looks as though things are about to get quite complicated.

On Friday, Robert found Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) attempting to burn some items that belonged to John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth). Full of self hatred after everything that’s happened, Aaron was calmed down by Robert, and they eventually returned to his house.

There, Aaron told Robert about how much he blames himself for the chaos John had caused. He believed that if he saw through John sooner, his reign over the village would’ve ended quicker.

John has now vanished from the village after going on the run. This only happened because Caleb Miligan (William Ash) helped him get to Rotterdam.

John had threatened Caleb and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), telling them that he had a scheduled email ready to send to the police, detailing what really happened to Anthony Fox.

The character said that if he was murdered or reported, he would ensure the police found out about Ruby Miligan (Beth Cordingly) killing her father.

Desperate to protect his wife, Caleb smuggled John across the border in the back of a truck.

Before John left for good, he deleted the email and told Caleb the location of Anthony’s body.

In the aftermath, Aaron panicked over the thought of John being on the run. He was certain that he’d return for him, but Caleb was convinced that John would stay away.

Also in the instalment that aired a couple of days ago, Aaron tried to kiss Robert. He rejected him, believing he needed to process his trauma before thinking about relationships.

As the episode ended, Robert and Aaron agreed to support each other as friends. Just as Robert headed home, he received a text from someone called ‘K’.

K was introduced to us as the latest episode opened. After asking for directions from local gossip Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler), K – real name Kev – arrived at Robert’s front door.

Robert was pleased to see Kev and invited him inside. They got chatting, but Kev seemed focused on a sexual connection between him and Robert.

They kissed, which was a bit awkward in itself, and then Kev asked if Robert wants to take his husband upstairs.

Er, quite the twist!

It became apparent that Kev was on day release from prison. He revealed to Robert that despite the extent of his conviction, he’s been allowed out because he now only has six months left to live.

Kev asked Robert to visit him regularly once he returns to prison, and he happily agreed.

Kev left the house shortly after Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) walked in on him holding hands with her brother. Curious for answers, Vic was surprised when Robert explained that Kev helped him a great deal when he was inside.

Robert said that he was attacked by fellow inmates for his sexuality and apparently being ‘posh’. He told his sister that Kev stopped the men, and now believes he owes him his life.

Given her brother’s obvious connection with Aaron, the news left Victoria staggered. Robert was under the impression that he’d be in prison for over 10 years, and knew marrying Kev would offer him protection.

As if these revelations weren’t enough, Robert then dropped another bombshell on Vic. He stated that Kev has an awful lot of money so if he stays with him until he dies, he’ll inherit the cash.

Vic urged Robert to tell Aaron – but can he bring himself to do so?

His relationship with Robert is very important to Aaron. How will he react to the news that the man he loves is married to someone else?
