Nancy Carter’s (Maddy Hill) return storyline in EastEnders has been revealed, with the truth about her reappearance set to rock her mum Linda Carter (Kellie Bright).
But if you were hoping it may involve information about her missing dad Mick Carter (Danny Dyer), who is still presumed dead following the watery climax of Christmas Day 2022, you may be disappointed.
Last month, it was revealed that Nancy will return to the BBC soap alongside her brother Lee Carter – played by Danny Hatchard – as part of Kellie Bright’s exit plot.
Upon the announcement that Kellie is set to leave her role as Linda, fans quickly suggested that a fitting end for the character would be for Mick and Linda to finally be reunited.
Subsequent news of Nancy and Lee’s returns only fuelled this speculation, but it turns out Mick is still MIA – at least for now.
What actually brings Nancy back to Albert Square is that she needs legal advice from her younger brother Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff).
She’s adamant she doesn’t want Linda to know she’s back, but she’s spotted by her mum’s new boyfriend Max Branning (Jake Wood), who quickly reports back to Linda.
Linda and her mum Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) head to see Nancy, but no sooner have they been reunited than the pair are arguing.
After Linda leaves, Nancy later returns to the Square to tell her mum the truth, and she’s stunned by what’s really going on.
As Elaine and Johnny scramble to smooth things over, Linda decides it’s time to come clean about her relationship with Max to her kids, hoping it will instil more honesty in them.
But with Lee’s return also imminent, that’s likely a case of wishful thinking…
Speaking about Linda’s final few months on screen, EastEnders executive producer promised fans they would see the character ‘at her best’.
He said: ‘Linda Carter is one of the all-time great EastEnders characters, so losing her is such a big moment for the show, and we wanted to make sure we see Linda at her best in her final few months.
‘We will be welcoming Lee and Nancy back for a period in a story where I guarantee your jaws will drop when you see it.’
Maddy Hill, who plays Nancy, said of her comeback: ‘I am SO excited to be returning to Enders for a short stint and stepping back into Nancy’s shoes (or basketball shorts!). I’ve missed her! I’m especially looking forward to seeing lots of familiar faces and acting alongside my incredible on-screen family.’
Danny Hatchard added of Lee’s return: ‘I’m absolutely over the moon to be returning to EastEnders as Lee Carter. Albert Square has always felt like a home away from home, so I’m proper buzzing to be back grafting with the Enders family.’
