Dwayne Johnson Reunites With Acclaimed Director To Play Chicken Man

Dwayne Johnson is set to reunite with a director he’s recently worked with, as he looks to yet again expand his acting experience and performances.

What acclaimed director is Dwayne Johnson reuniting with?

According to a new report from Deadline, Johnson and Benny Safdie are teaming together yet again after their partnership in the upcoming The Smashing Machine. With the film already garnering massive praise, Johnson and Safdie will reunite on Lizard Music, which Safdie will adapt from the Daniel Pinkwater novel of the same name.

The movie, which will be shopped soon, will follow the story of a boy, who “stumbles upon a secret late-night broadcast of lizards playing otherworldly music.” He then comes into contact with the “eccentric and whimsical Chicken Man,” who will be played by Johnson. Chicken Man is joined by his companion, a 70-year-old chicken named Claudia, and the pair set off on an adventure.

The role will yet again pair Johnson and Safdie together in what is beginning to be a unique partnership. Johnson’s role in Safdie’s The Smashing Machine is already drawing some big buzz, with many wondering if he’ll get an Academy Award nomination for his role. Alongside Johnson, The Smashing Machine also stars Emily Blunt, Ryan Bader, Bas Rutten, Oleksandr Usyk, and more.

The Smashing Machine is set to release on October 3, 2025.
