It’s bad enough that Sarah Platt’s (Tina O’Brien) might be going down for Theo Silverton’s murder on next week’s Coronation Street. Does Gary Windass (Mikey North) really have to go to jail too?
Next week is Judgement Day on Corrie, where Sarah finally receives the verdict in court that will determine whether she killed twisted abuser Theo in cold blood, or if pushing him off that scaffolding was self-defence.
But she’s not alone. Her ex-boyfriend and partner in crime Gary also awaits his fate next week, when he’s forced to break the news to his partner Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) that he’s been given a date for his hearing.
On that fateful night,Sarah struck the fatal blow to Theo that knocked him from the rooftops onto the Cobbles to his death. In a panic, she called Gary, who is exactly who you would call to help deal with a dead body, seeing as it’s not exactly his first rodeo. Gary disposed of the murder weapon and kept Sarah’s secret.
Obviously, when everything came out, it did not go down well with Maria, who had long suspected that Gary was sneaking about with Sarah because he was cheating.
The truth was so much worse. Not only had he helped his ex get away with murder, but Gary put his own freedom on the line, jeopardising his future with Maria and Gary’s sons, Jake (Bobby Bradshaw) and Liam (Charlie Wrenshall).
Now Gary’s chickens are coming home to roost, as he’s set to lose his family and possibly his freedom when taking the stand in court, during upcoming episodes of Coronation Street.
When Gary reveals the date of his hearing to Maria, Jake and Liam are devastated to hear that their dad might be sent to prison.
It doesn’t take long for Jake to start acting out when Gary takes a call from the school informing him that his son been suspended for fighting.
In the flat, Jake tears Gary to shreds for risking his freedom for Sarah, when he clearly doesn’t care about him, Liam or Maria. Angry and hurt, Jake packs his rucksack and heads out to stay with his mum Izzy (Cherylee Houston)
It’s heartbreaking for Gary when Izzy calls atVictoria Court for the rest of Jakes’s things. His son’s made it clear he doesn’t want to come home because Gary put Sarah before his family.
Seeing Gary at his lowest ebb, Maria promises that Sarah won’t let him down, he won’t be sent to prison and Jake will be back before he knows it. Gary is clinging onto the hope that she’s right.
However, that hope dies on the day of the trial when Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) he learns from Sarah’s barrister that Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) won’t be attending trial. That’s incredibly bad news, seeing as Kit is Sarah’s ex and a key witness.
Meanwhile in court, it’s Gary’s turn to face a grilling from the prosecution. Is he about to lose everything?
