Oscar nominee Colman Domingo, Golden Globe nominee Nicholas Hoult, Golden Globe winner Emma Corrin and young “Hamnet” and “A Quiet Place” star Noah Jupe will star in the transgressive psychological thriller “The Servant”.

The project marks the next directorial effort of acclaimed filmmaker Francis Lee whose “God’s Own Country” helped launch the career of Josh O’Connor. He followed that up with the well-received Kate Winslet-led drama “Ammonite”.

Here he’ll team with Blueprint Pictures (“All of Us Strangers”) and Film4 (“The Zone of Interest”) on the film which Mk2 (“Sentimental Value”) is shopping around at Cannes.

Set in 1950s New York, the story follows Tony (Hoult), an entitled British man who moves into a beautiful apartment on Central Park and becomes embroiled in a wicked power play with his manservant, Barrett (Domingo).

The film is said to be a reimagining of the subversive 1963 Joseph Losey classic, which boasted a screenplay by Harold Pinter and starred Dirk Bogarde. That film dealt with undertones of class, sexuality and politics and was a key inspiration for Oscar winner “Parasite”.

The new take will keep the 1950s setting of the original but offer a more contemporary viewpoint with its own “sexual cat-and-mouse games and modern dynamics”. Lee says in the statement is to deliver a “exciting, dangerous and fun retelling”.

Graham Broadbent and Pete Czernin produce, and shooting is slated to begin in January.
