Concern is growing for Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) in Emmerdale, as he becomes consumed with guilt following a horrifying start to the year.
Back in January, Paddy found himself caught in a terrifying situation when Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) threatened to kill him and Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle).
Ray began beating Paddy, but he was interrupted by the return of traumatised and vulnerable Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards), who had just spent months on Ray and Celia Daniels’ (Jaye Griffiths) farm working as a slave.
Bear grabbed Ray and squeezed his neck so hard, he killed him. In the aftermath, Paddy and Dylan leapt into action to try and protect Bear. They hid Ray’s body in a depot van, and created a cover story in the hope Bear wouldn’t go to prison.
Due to the fact a troubled Bear couldn’t keep the truth a secret, he was arrested and questioned time and time again about Ray’s murder.
Throughout the majority of the investigation, Bear claimed that he was the only one present when Ray died. When DS Walsh (Amanda Ryan) caught him in the lie, a stressed Bear said that he did intend to kill Ray after all.
It was done with the hope he’d protect Paddy, but it now means Bear is facing the prospect of going to prison for the rest of his life.
When Paddy learnt of this development, he decided it was time to come clean to the police. He went to the station with Dylan, where they got charged with perverting the course of justice.
This now means Paddy, Dylan and Bear are all awaiting trial and could all go to prison.
In this evening’s episode, Paddy asked Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) and Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) if he could return to work at the vets. Because Paddy has been charged, he hasn’t been allowed to work, but the duo recognised he was in desperate need of a distraction.
Rhona let Paddy work on the reception desk for a few hours. Just as he got up to close for lunch though, a woman rushed in claiming her cat wasn’t very well.
With Rhona and Vanessa away, Paddy took a risk and decided to help, but his foggy brain meant it went drastically wrong.

The woman wanted to make a formal complaint, and Rhona and Vanessa couldn’t help but unleash their anger at Paddy, who knew full well that he shouldn’t have assisted.
That evening, Paddy found Vanessa and apologised. He opened up about how he wants to work because it’s a distraction from everything that’s going on in his mind right now.
Feeling like he’s stuck in a never ending nightmare, Paddy told Vanessa that he wants ‘it to end’, but there was a look on his face that suggested he wasn’t just talking about the police investigation.
The ITV soap will continue to focus on Paddy’s state of mind this week. Full of self-hatred, he heads to the vets and makes his way to the locked box which has the bolt gun inside. Paddy remembers the last time he was in this position, when he took the gun and contemplated ending his life with it.
Fortunately, Paddy leaves the vets without it and heads to Marlon Dingle’s (Mark Charnock) house instead.
It sets the foundations for an episode that focuses solely on Marlon and Paddy, as they attempt to confront their inner demons.
