Marvel Studios confirmed at New York Comic Con 2026 that the revival series Daredevil: Born Again will conclude with its upcoming third season. The announcement, which provides a definitive end date for Matt Murdock’s current Disney+ arc, was accompanied by the confirmation of a March 2027 release window for the final chapter.

The news marks a full-circle moment for the character’s television history, as Marvel revealed that the final season will feature a complete Defenders reunion. Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), and Finn Jones (Danny Rand) are all set to return alongside Charlie Cox, reuniting the core team from the original Netflix era for the first time since 2017.

Footage screened for the NYCC audience picked up directly from the fallout of Season 2, which ended with Matt Murdock confessing his secret identity in court and being arrested, while Wilson Fisk was exiled from New York. The new clips show Murdock in a maximum-security prison, forced to defend himself without his traditional gear. In a sequence that directly references Chip Zdarsky’s acclaimed Daredevil comic run, Murdock is seen crafting a makeshift mask and arm wraps from a shredded orange prison jumpsuit to protect his identity during a riot.

Behind the Decision to End the Revival

The conclusion of Born Again follows a period of transition for the production. While the revival was initially met with significant anticipation, industry reports have noted a shift in the show’s trajectory. Viewership data from Luminate reportedly indicated a 50% decline in audience engagement between the first and second seasons, likely influencing Marvel’s decision to pivot toward a definitive three-season structure.

Production has also seen leadership changes during the final stretch. Showrunner Dario Scardapane, who oversaw much of the series’ creative overhaul, reportedly had his contract end in September 2026 during the post-production phase of Season 3. These shifts suggest Marvel is focusing on a tightly choreographed finale rather than an open-ended multi-season run.

Despite the announcement that the series is ending, star Charlie Cox remains vocal about the character’s future. During the panel, Cox reportedly encouraged fans to revive the “Save Daredevil” movement, the same grassroots campaign that originally lobbied for the character’s return after the Netflix cancellation in 2018. While Season 3 is the end of the Born Again title, it remains unclear if the character will transition into theatrical MCU projects, such as the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars.

The return of the full Defenders roster remains the season’s primary draw. Although Mike Colter was absent from the physical panel due to scheduling conflicts, his appearance in the footage alongside Ritter and Jones confirms that the “Street Level” heroes of the MCU will stand together one last time in the March 2027 premiere.
