The biggest story in new horror movies over the past few years has been the pseudo-gentrification of the genre, as “elevated horror” and mainstream successes have defined how it’s talked about. Horror is now as big of an IP machine as sci-fi and blockbusters, and while the indie fire still burns bright, there’s a lot more money spent on horror movies.
