Each year, a new anime series seems to arrive with little or moderate anticipation from fans, before quickly and unexpectedly taking the anime world by storm and stealing the spotlight from other, more established shows. In late 2023 and early 2024, that show was Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, a fantasy series based on the manga by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe, which has ascended to anime royalty by doing things a little differently.
