The sleeper hit is a dichotomy. On the one hand, there are series that take a while to find an audience, but when they do, it’s magic, the likes of Seinfeld, Parks and Recreation, or The Office. On the other hand, there are series that are critically underwhelming that, against all odds, find an audience right away – not so many that it's hailed as the next big thing, but enough to keep it afloat. And they just chug along, week after week, rarely spoken of but renewed every year, like According to Jim or 'Til Death. Then they just simply end, all but forgotten. But there are real gems to be found in that pile, like Yes, Dear, a series that was certain to be DOA, but lived on for 6 seasons.
