Clayface Popcorn Bucket Is as Creepy as the DCU Horror Movie

DC Studios’ Clayface is already getting under fans’ skin before it even hits theaters. A new themed popcorn bucket spotted at a theater proves the upcoming horror film’s marketing is leaning fully into its creepy premise.

Clayface gets a creepy new popcorn bucket ahead of release

A Clayface popcorn bucket has surfaced at a theater ahead of the film’s October 23 release. The X (formerly Twitter) account Home of DCU shared an image of the bucket on September 25, 2026. The post quickly gained over 68,000 views.

The bucket features a clay-like hand emerging from a rounded container. It carries the “Clayface” branding on its front side. Themed popcorn buckets have become a major marketing tool for blockbuster releases in recent years.

Clayface stars relative newcomer Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, a rising actor who suffers brutal disfigurement. He volunteers as a test subject to restore his face but undergoes horrifying side effects. His body transforms into living clay as he struggles to recognize himself.

James Watkins directs the film from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. Flanagan originally pitched the project to DC Studios in March 2023. He stepped away from directing due to scheduling conflicts with other commitments.

Watkins joined the project in February 2025 after giving a final presentation to James Gunn. Naomi Ackie costars as Dr. Caitlin Corr, the scientist who creates Clayface. Max Minghella plays John Borelli, a Gotham City police detective. Eddie Marsan and David Dencik also appear in the cast.

The film carries an R-rating and draws comparisons to the 1986 horror classic The Fly. Gunn has described it as a body horror film aimed at horror fans beyond the DC audience. Filming took place across Liverpool and at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England.

Principal photography ran from late August through early November 2025. The production operated under the working title Corinthians. Clayface sits within DC Studios’ Chapter One: Gods and Monsters slate.

Warner Bros. Pictures initially set a September 11, 2026 release before shifting to the October date.
