Charlie Sheen opens up about his excessive drug habits

Charlie Sheen gave an interview on Jesse Watters Primetime. He revealed his drug use was so excessive that the supplying cartel thought he was dealing without authorization.

“The amount that they were selling to [his drug dealer] Marco [Abeyta] … they had never transferred that to someone who wasn’t dealing,” Sheen said. He added that the cartel believed he was “blowing through this stuff so freaking fast, he’s dealing without our permission.”

Sheen explained that cartels require permission for dealing, saying, “You’ve got to get permission from the shot callers.” He noted that his drug use became unsustainable and led to CBS intervening while he starred in Two and a Half Men. “They sent the jet hoping I would get on it and get the rehab,” Sheen recalled.

He said he told former CBS CEO Les Moonves, “I appreciate this. You have my word, I’m going to shut it down, but I’m going to do it here at home.” Sheen noted the network offered the jet for the first time in his eight years on the show.

His addiction cost him his role, and producers fired him before replacing him with Ashton Kutcher in 2011. Reflecting on the turning point, Sheen said, “There was no bigger party to attend. There was no higher high left. And I just felt like I’d been letting people down for too long and myself included in that, and it just lost its luster.”

Now approaching eight years sober, Sheen explained why he stopped. “It stopped working,” he said. “I had to get to a place I had to make the decision, you know, and I had to do it for myself first, my children second, and then the rest of my family.”

His Netflix documentary aka Charlie Sheen premieres Wednesday, alongside the release of his memoir The Book of Sheen.
