Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) is left shaken to the core in Casualty this week as he makes a disturbing discovery but, before he can join the dots, Colonel Jack Bard (Mark Womack) intervenes, shutting him down.

Clinical Lead Flynn, as viewers know, was left reeling last month when he crossed paths with Bard at the beginning of the BBC One medical drama’s latest boxset Lethal Legacy.

It was clear from the outset that the two have a fraught history, with Flynn having worked as a medic in the army under Bard, whose strict and disciplinarian ways have made him a controversial character.

Bard’s presence has left Flynn on edge and in new scenes – which can be streamed on iPlayer now ahead of broadcast tonight – the situation intensifies.

An explosion on the Wyvern Hill Estate leads to the arrival of Bard and his soldiers, who waste little time in investigating what has transpired. Soon after, they discover that the site in question is a toxic waste dump.

A subsequent explosion occurs on the estate and one of Bard’s soldiers is left injured as a result.

The soldier in question is rushed to the ED and, during an examination, Flynn discovers bruises on his back, which are unrelated to the explosion.

They’re historic injuries.

The situation raises his suspicions and thus he questions fellow solider Rory, wanting to know how his patient acquired such injuries.

Before he can get any answers from Rory, however, Bard is on hand and shuts the exchange down.

Flynn is left shaken.

Is there a dark disturbing story in regards to where the bruises came from? Has Flynn uncovered something disturbing in relation to Bard and how he treats his soldiers?

It’s clear Bard knows more than he’s letting on and, upon Emmerdale star Mark Womack’s casting as the nasty colonel, it was made clear that the character has a ‘powerful hold’ over his subordinates.

Will Flynn get to the bottom of it? And will he and Bard be able to co-exist while working together as Lethal Legacy continues?

Casualty airs these scenes Saturday May 9 at 8:25pm on BBC One or stream from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
