Sergio Moro, who rose to prominence as the judge who greenlit and oversaw the sprawling “Operation Car Wash” corruption investigation, was elected governor of Paraná state, Brazil, on Sunday.Moro rode a wave of right-wing support in the general election, which also featured contests for seats in the Brazilian congress and the presidency. At the top of the ticket, Sen. Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair, won the election, but came under the 50-percent threshold to outright win the presidency. He will face socialist incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in a runoff election on October 25.
