Orelvis Martinez‘s time with the Toronto Blue Jays could be coming to an end.

The infielder was designated for assignment on Tuesday, the team announced.

Martinez, who was at one point ranked second on the Blue Jays’ top prospect lists, played one game for the big-league team in 2024, where he recorded one hit.

His promotion came after finding some success at the triple-A level, slashing .267/.346/.523 with 17 home runs and 49 RBI in 281 at-bats.

He was suspended for 80 games after his major league debut in 2024 after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug.

Martinez has played 99 games for triple-A Buffalo this season, where his hitting has taken a sharp downturn. The 23-year-old is sporting a .176/.288/.348 slash line and has been struck out 112 times in 336 at-bats.

The Blue Jays also announced that right-hander Alek Manoah has been reinstated from the 60-day IL and formally optioned to triple-A Buffalo, where he will continue his rehab assignment as he works back from UCL reconstruction surgery.

His last outing came on Sept. 6, where he had 5.2 innings of work on 90 pitches with six hits, seven runs — five of them unearned — two homers, one walk and five strikeouts.

The Blue Jays had until Saturday to make a decision on Manoah, who would have exhausted his 30-day rehab window as well as three subsequent 10-day extensions as of Friday. No more extensions are permitted, meaning the Blue Jays had to option Manoah or recall him to the majors unless a different injury were to emerge and create a need for continued rehab outings at triple-A.
