BBC bosses ‘stand by Strictly star accused of cocaine use’ after police probe

BBC bosses are reportedly ‘standing by’ the Strictly Come Dancing star who has been accused of cocaine use on the programme by former contestant Wynne Evans.

Met Police previously confirmed they had launched a probe into Strictly after claims two of its stars used cocaine.

A Met spokesperson said: ‘On Tuesday, 12 August, the Metropolitan Police received an allegation about drug-related offences.

‘Police are assessing the information and further enquiries are taking place to establish whether there is evidence of a criminal offence being committed. We won’t be commenting further at this time.’

It has now been reported that a member of the show has been given a ‘central role’ in the upcoming series, despite an internal investigation at the BBC over the allegation.

A TV insider told the Daily Mail: ‘The BBC are fed up with Wynne causing trouble for their beloved Strictly and they have shown huge loyalty to this person by standing by him and making sure they are very much involved in this year’s show.’

Opera singer Evans is said to have levelled an accusation of drug use on the programme in March this year, through a law firm, The Sun previously reported. 

It came after Evans was removed from the Strictly Live Tour after making inappropriate sexual comments.

In addition to this allegation, a longtime worker on Strictly claimed they were offered drugs by a star on the show. 

A whistleblower who worked behind the scenes on the show for a decade until 2023 has said he witnessed ‘partying at Elsetree studio after live filming’.

The worker, who accuses an unnamed star of offering them cocaine, added that the cast and crew were ‘drinking and taking drugs’, with bags of white powder suspected to be cocaine found in a smoking area and the men’s toilet on two separate occasions.

The incident in which this crew member was offered cocaine occurred at a Blackpool show after-party, according to a report in The Sun.

In a statement responding to the latest allegations, a spokesperson for the national broadcaster said: ‘We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us.

‘We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns.

This latest scandal comes just weeks before the popular dancing competition returns to screens for its 23rd series later this month.

Metro contacted the BBC for comment.
