Avengers: Doomsday Gets an Earlier Release Date, But There’s a Catch

Avengers: Doomsday has a new early release date, but not for everyone. It will give audiences from particular locations an earlier chance to see the highly anticipated MCU crossover.

The change was spotted after updated showtimes appeared on cinema websites, including Odeon. Disney later confirmed the new date to Digital Spy. Avengers: Doomsday will now open in UK theaters on Wednesday, December 16, 2026, two days before its scheduled US release.

The earlier UK debut means British audiences will see the next Avengers movie before US moviegoers.

There is one important catch, though. The release date has not been moved up in the US. American audiences will still have to wait until Friday, December 18, 2026, to watch the film in theaters. That difference could make avoiding spoilers particularly difficult for fans who plan to wait for the domestic release.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Doomsday is expected to bring together a large group of Marvel characters as the MCU moves deeper into its multiverse storyline. The movie also marks Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the franchise after his Tony Stark/Iron Man story concluded with Avengers: Endgame. This time, however, Downey is playing Victor Von Doom.

Which other Marvel movies were released earlier internationally?

Marvel has used international release dates ahead of the US before, particularly during the MCU’s earlier phases. Several major movies reached the UK and other international theaters days before their North American debuts.

Joss Whedon’s The Avengers opened in the UK on April 26, 2012, before arriving in the US on May 4. Iron Man 3 followed a similar pattern in 2013, opening internationally on April 25 before its May 3 US release.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier arrived in the UK on March 26, 2014, ahead of its April 4 American release. Avengers: Age of Ultron also received an international head start, reaching UK theaters eight days before its US debut.

Later releases, including Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, followed the pattern with smaller international gaps. With Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel is once again giving some overseas audiences an early theatrical launch before the movie reaches US theaters.
