The superhero genre witnessed a major tonal shift with Christopher Nolan's epic The Dark Knight trilogy. After decades of colorful adventures, superheroes were presented in a grounded reality that captured the mood of the times. Similarly, Nolan put his stamp on the fantasy genre with his latest film, The Odyssey, based on Homer's Greek epic. Earlier, movies based on the Greek myths featured plenty of monsters and mayhem, but Nolan's version revolved around themes such as post-traumatic stress, guilt, and human agency. That said, Nolan admitted that he was inspired by Ray Harryhausen's cult classic 1981 movie, Clash of the Titans, which was remade in 2010 by Louis Leterrier.
